From 20–22 August 2025, the Government of Japan will host the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), reaffirming its long-standing commitment to African-led development. Since its inception in 1993, TICAD has provided a strategic platform for high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners, underpinned by the principles of ownership, partnership, and mutual accountability.
Co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the World Bank, and the African Union Commission, TICAD9 will bring together heads of state, business leaders, international organisations, and civil society to drive forward a shared development agenda.
B20 South Africa’s Sherpa, Cas Coovadia, will represent the B20 at TICAD9, reinforcing the importance of business-led policy engagement in advancing Africa’s development priorities and global partnerships.
