Event Overview
The 2025 edition of the Sanlam ESG Barometer introduces a Special Report on B20 Policy Impact, aligned with South Africa’s G20 Presidency. Traditionally focused on tracking ESG performance among JSE- and Kenyan-listed companies, this year’s edition evaluates the real world impact of B20 policy recommendations from the past three cycles (2022–2024).
By tracing the pathway from B20 recommendations to G20 adoption and government implementation, the report illustrates the critical role of the B20 in shaping global policy and advancing sustainable development priorities. This research underscores the Sanlam ESG Barometer’s position as an impact-driven thought leadership platform and amplifies Africa’s priorities in global policy debates.
The launch will also host a technical discussion on “Moving Beyond the Report: Ensuring Meaningful Implementation Through Cross Sector Accountability.” Anchored in the report’s findings, the panel will examine the accountability structures needed to ensure that endorsed B20 proposals translate into real-world delivery. Moderated by Nastassia Arendse, the discussion will explore how business, government, and civil society can collaborate to drive implementation on issues such as green industrialisation, infrastructure resilience, and financial inclusion.
As part of the programme, Khulekani Mathe, CEO of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA — host of B20 South Africa), will share insights on mission-critical priorities for South Africa’s development and its leadership moment on the global stage.
