Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) is the principal representative of South African business. 

Established in 2003, BUSA is a non-profit, unified organisation that advocates for the interests of the South African business community at the national and international levels. 

It serves as the main interface between the business sector and the government, labor, and international stakeholders, facilitating a cohesive and inclusive business environment.

Mission and Role

BUSA’s mission is to create and sustain an environment conducive to inclusive economic growth, social development, and transformation within South Africa. By engaging in advocacy, policy development, and strategic partnerships, BUSA aims to influence public policy in a manner that enhances the overall competitiveness and sustainability of South African businesses.

Representation and Membership

BUSA represents a broad spectrum of South African businesses, including small, medium, and large enterprises across various sectors. Its membership encompasses major national business organisations, sectoral associations, and corporate entities. This diverse representation allows BUSA to provide a unified voice on behalf of the South African business community, addressing key issues that impact economic growth and development.

Key Functions and Activities

  • Policy Advocacy: BUSA actively engages with the South African government, Parliament, and other stakeholders to shape policies that support economic growth, job creation, and social development. It provides input on legislative and regulatory matters, ensuring that the interests of the business community are well-represented.
  • Social Dialogue: BUSA plays a crucial role in facilitating dialogue between business, labor, and government. It is a key participant in the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC), where it collaborates on issues of national importance, including labor relations, economic policy, and social security.
  • Business Support and Development: BUSA supports its members through various initiatives aimed at enhancing business capabilities, promoting innovation, and fostering entrepreneurship. It provides a range of services, including capacity building, research, and information dissemination, to help businesses navigate the complex regulatory and economic landscape.
  • International Engagement: BUSA represents South African business interests in international forums and organisations, including the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Organisation of Employers (IOE). It also engages with counterparts in other countries to promote trade and investment opportunities.
