Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force

Task Force Overview

The B20 South Africa Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force is focused on delivering actionable, context-specific proposals that support a global shift towards low-carbon, resilient, and inclusive energy systems. At the heart of this work is the belief that energy security, economic competitiveness, and environmental responsibility must be pursued together, not in isolation.

The Task Force is focused on four strategic priorities:

  1. Balancing Sustainability and Energy Security: Promoting a diversified energy mix that reflects national contexts – combining renewables, transition fuels, and low-carbon, dispatchable technologies to maintain energy affordability and system reliability.
  2. Mobilising Sustainable Energy Transition Finance: Unlocking capital for emerging markets through blended finance, concessional tools, and frameworks that reduce risk, and accelerate infrastructure development.
  3. Accelerating Industrialisation Across the Energy Value Chain: Positioning emerging and developing economies (EMDEs) to capture more value across the energy transition value chain by localising low-carbon tech manufacturing, processing critical minerals, and expanding transition skills ecosystems.
  4. Expanding and Modernising Energy Infrastructure: Supporting investment in modern, interconnected power systems and fast-tracking regulatory approvals for clean energy deployment.

This Task Force aims to ensure that the global energy transition is not only sustainable, but also fair and investable – providing communities, businesses, and governments with the tools to shape future-fit, sovereign energy pathways.
